  13. Subject: Interapplication communication
  14.
  15. Folks:
  16.
  17. The talk about Ghostscript prompts me to raise a question... MS
  18. Windows incorporates protocols for local communication between
  19. applications (two of 'em, in fact).  They seem vaguely similar in
  20. purpose to the protocols mentioned by the folks discussing
  21. Ghostscript...
  22.
  23. I would very much like to build some recognition of these into anchors, so that local apps
  24. could be fired up/communicated with by some means beyond recognition
  25. of file extensions (I have a particular purpose in mind which involves
  26. feeding queries to a proprietary database client, but there are a few
  27. billion more uses for such a thing).  Question is, what's the best way
  28. to do the URL? I could invent something local to the Windows
  29. environment, but it would seem that as there are analogues for other
  30. platforms something general would be handy.  Or have I missed the
  31. point, with this problem long since resolved under some other scheme?
  32.
  33. Regards,
  34. Tb.
